Skeptics' ultimate hypocrisy regarding alternative medicine“Devotion to the truth is the hallmark of morality; there is no greater, nobler, more heroic form of devotion than the act of a man who assumes the responsibility of thinking.” - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

Randi was no researcher of the paranormal even though he tried half heartedly.... Shows over.

next time you are on an accident (i dont wish anybody that) dont go to a real doctor go to an homeopath, acupunturist or whatever quack method you prefer For every person who reads this valuable book there are hundreds of naïve souls who would prefer to have their spines tingled by a sensational but worthless potboiler by some hack journalist of the paranormal. You who now read these sentences join a small but wiser minority. Martin Gaardner (Psychology of the Psychic)
Re: Skeptics' ultimate hypocrisy regarding alternative medicineNot really. Think about how many lives have been saved by proven medical practices. Instead of the unproven alternative ones. If they worked they would be proved and be called medicine.
Some alternative medicines have been shown to give no noticeable effect repeatedly enough though that I don't see the point of testing them again.(Homeopathy for example). Unlike Vaccinces which have been shown to have great effect. Edited to add that most medicine have a percentage of success attributed to the so if something was shown to have a 70% survival rate with a treatment(20% otherwise) and 30% of people died after the treatement how are we hypocritical of the alternative treatment which would end up with around 80% of people dieing.

Re: Skeptics' ultimate hypocrisy regarding alternative medicinehey man..
from all that list Kevorkian is the one i do agree with :-p i know is a moral issue and not sure we should get down that road (nothing paranormal about that) but i think everybody is entitled to decide when they want to go, nobody should suffer only the religious right kooks want to keep people alive in their suffering For every person who reads this valuable book there are hundreds of naïve souls who would prefer to have their spines tingled by a sensational but worthless potboiler by some hack journalist of the paranormal. Re: Skeptics' ultimate hypocrisy regarding alternative medicineI think people forget that different things work different ways for different people. IMO our bodies are like a chemistry set needing the right balance of vitamins, omegas, excersise and dosage. For example maybe I have a Vitamin D deficency I would certainly have to find out the right amount of dosage needed to set it straight, whereas a person with good vitamin d levels would need for little dosage and would try not to over due it to cause later side effects. To much of anything is bad, moderation is the key and the different amounts of dosage matter very importantly, we all react differently to certain nutritions and diets ETC.
Re: Skeptics' ultimate hypocrisy regarding alternative medicineI have to be very careful when taking any prescription medications. If it's not absolutely necessary, I will do without.
Re: Skeptics' ultimate hypocrisy regarding alternative medicineEarlier I noticed a comment about the Swine Flu vaccine. Would the poster attempt to defend their position?

Re: Skeptics' ultimate hypocrisy regarding alternative medicBecause they make a profit?
![]() Even though you're just a spammer, I'll answer the question: alternative medicine is "alternative" simply because they don't go through proper scietific testing prior to being administered to the public. I have no issue with Reiki, or Homeopathy, or acupuncture in principle. Just show that it works! And do so by using the same techniques that we use for every other medical practice. I don't care if it was discovered 1000 years ago or last week: just show that it works as intended, and is safe.
