Ellen Gould Harmon is known as the founder of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Ellen who later married to James White. Ellen claimed to have visions after the failing of the William Miller's 1844 flawed calculations of the Messiah's Second Coming . Ellen believed she had recieved the ''gift of prophecy'' from God's Spirit to explain where they had gone wrong. The Seventh Day Adventist Church to this day has the ''1844 Investigative Judgement'' as one of their ''27 statements of faith''.Which means that if any Pastor of SDA disagree with the 1844 Investigative Judgement, then that Pastor is dismissed from his position. (Read about Desmond Ford former SDA Pastor who challenged Ellen White's Visions as being unScriptural). The SDA's have elevated Ellen Gould White to the postion of ''Infallible'',even though they deny this, yet in practice they do not. http://www.whiteestate.org/issues/shutdoor.htmlEllen White is likened to the Catholic Pope in her Infallibility. If one goes against Ellen White's teachings, then you're out of the Seventh Day Adventist Church to perish forever in silent death,as they don't believe in eternal punishment.
Randi was no researcher of the paranormal even though he tried half heartedly.... Shows over.

It is still better than some old time religions that put you to death for not believing.

The one thing I've never been able to understand, especially with that particular group... The Bible is quite specific in stating that "Heaven" can only contain 144,000 souls and more or less, the rest of us are damned. That being the case, why do these people march about town knocking on doors or trying to sell their magazines in order to gain more converts... they already have way over that 144,000 souls that will be exclusive members??? Or is it that there are multiple Heavens in which 144,000 Catholics go to one; 144,000 Baptist to another and so on? Then there's that 72 virgin thing in Islam... seems to me that would be more akin to hell in that you would have to constantly retrain the critters and risk not getting any of the good stuff ever again

I asked the exact same question about those 144,000 in a previous topic. That has always astounded me.

I believe this should be addressed at the next Parliament of World Religions so they can sort out who that 144,000 is, set them over to the side and leave the rest of us alone... no more bigoted comic books, network after network of fake evangelists stealing money from seniors and the poverty ridden, etc.
I know that sounds rude, cruel and very anti-Christian (in particular) but c'mon! If God only wants to let 144,000 people into his "kingdom" then why in the hell make life a pain in the butt for everyone else?

(Revelation 7: 3-8) Saying: "Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until after we have sealed the servants of God on their foreheads." And I heard the number of the sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:
12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed, 12,000 from the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 from the tribe of Gad, 12,000 from the tribe of Asher, 12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh, 12,000 from the tribe of Simeon, 12,000 from the tribe of Levi, 12,000 from the tribe of Issachar, 12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000 from the tribe of Joseph, 12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.
144,000 = 12,000 x 12,000 from the 12 Tribes of Israel.
It has a special distinction and significance. Not referring to only those who Partake in Glory.
Jehovah's Witnesses have twisted it into silliness, saying it refers to 144,000 devout Jehovah's Witnesses.
