Why Morality and Ethics do not need God or Religion

Postby Scepcop » 21 Jun 2011, 00:21

Deep thinker Darryl Sloan explains how and why morality and ethics are meaningful and make sense without the need for God or religion.

“Devotion to the truth is the hallmark of morality; there is no greater, nobler, more heroic form of devotion than the act of a man who assumes the responsibility of thinking.” - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

CLUE: (I hope you can get it, Winston)
Sloan is an IDIOT who has no theology back ground, no foundation in religious studies let alone ethics and morality studies so HOW IN THE HELL is he able to being about resolution around a question that's been bantered about by some of the most learned minds in history?

Yes, "Morality" as in basic "good & bad" can and does exist "without god" -- it's a part of nature, for lack of a better term; most of us are born with a benevolent nature that includes respect in and of others. But there's that small percentage that seem to come into this world determined to create problems; they're hellions from day one be it due to an unhealthy soul, personal choices, or some kind of psychological or even karmic issue, it's how they are. Their only job in life is bringing the shit to the fan-blades and giving society CONTRAST -- a bit of Yin to go with the Yang, as it were.

BUT "Good vs. Bad" is a matter of perspective as well; what the Aztecs viewed as being "right" the western invaders saw as being wrong. . . granted, the Spanish Christians ended up murdering and spilling far more blood than those demonic human sacrifices the savages were doing in the middle of their massive and somewhat "advanced" communities, but hey, the Christians were being MORAL and ETHICAL about things. . . so what if their main agenda centered on the exploit and rape of the Aztec Empire for it's gold, silver, slaves and land. . .

I guess you could say, at least from my personal point of view, that the most immoral group to have lived has to be the Christians -- the biggest group of hypocrites history has ever testified of.

Is it moral to be monogamous or to have several mates?

I'd think we need to look at what nature tells us and what seems to be the nature of man (though we are conditioned to believe the contrary). Humans are pack or herd animals and as such the Alpha is the one with the choice of mates and servicing many, while all others are permitted one, IF the Alpha were to permit it. For various reasons the Human Alpha would consign such things while retaining his right (or hers) to choice of stock until the young buck challenges him for right to rule. . . just go study the lesser primates in the wild and you'll more or less see this in action and none of it has to do with an invented sense of right or wrong. . . it just is -- it's nature!

All of it is far overly complicated by man and our attempt to define, constrict and mold everything to the vision shared by a limited few who manage to somehow manipulate the masses in a manner that allows them dominance -- their word made law. Yet, said edicts aren't always "right" or even remotely "moral" when it comes to the greater consciousness of the people.

Mr. Sloan is, in the view of many, immoral given his deliberate game of manipulating the minds of the weak of will and fantasy filled so as to meet his personal agenda. I'm just waiting for him to start buying property in around WACO, TX.

Craig,
You are strange. It seems like you are trying to create conflict where none exists, like trolls do.

Why do you throw some ad hominem attacks at Sloan in your post and then go on to agree with him? Nothing you said disproves anything he's said. You have not shown him to be wrong about anything either. You are strange Craig. It seems like you are criticizing just for the sake of it. That's not rational behavior.

Here is another great new video by Darryl Sloan where he explains to a Christian why ethics and morality can have meaning and purpose without the need for a God. The Christian had argued that morality is meaningless without a deity, which reflected his brainwashed mind. Darryl makes a lot of really good points in this one. He is one of the most genuine freethinkers out there.
