Re: Miscellaneous Site UpdatesRunning my own forum I've come to realise that there are various Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Bots that will understand and give the answer to the graphic shown. Better to have a question and specific answer which does require human interaction. If it is humans then perhaps Administrator activation might be an idea for a while. Only a suggestion!
Re: Miscellaneous Site UpdatesI just replaced the search box at the top with a Google search box. The one that was built into this forum wasn't very good. A lot of word searches with it came up with "your search words are too common" which is dumb. Have you all noticed that? The Google search box doesn't do that. Try it out.

Re: Miscellaneous Site UpdatesThanks for trying to make changes, Scepcop, and not to be a pest, but why not put in the standard search that other sites have. Take a look at skeptiko for an example. You can search within a thread, within the forum generally, or go to the more advanced searching in separate window.
Also: look at what happens when you click on a person's name on Skeptiko: you get their home page of sorts, where you can leave them a message, PM, see when they were last online, see all their posts, or threads they started? You can also right click on a name and do the same thing.
Re: Miscellaneous Site UpdatesAnd we're back to normal. Thanks Winston.

Re: Miscellaneous Site UpdatesBtw, that Google search box only finds topics that have already been indexed by Google. If you're looking for a new topic that hasn't been indexed by Google yet, then you should probably try to find it on the Latest 100 Topics Page linked above, or the Active Topics Page. Just go there and use Control - F and enter the words in the topic to find it.

Re: Forum Updates and ImprovementsUpdate:
I moved the social media and share buttons to the top of each thread right above the first post, so you can share them. I also added a Facebook Like button to the row as well. “Devotion to the truth is the hallmark of morality; there is no greater, nobler, more heroic form of devotion than the act of a man who assumes the responsibility of thinking.” - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
Re: Forum Updates and ImprovementsUpdate for our members-
We're heading into peak spam season right now. Historically, October has and obviously still is the time for spammers to come out in major numbers. I will try to stay on top of the problem as best I can and you can help by not responding to obvious and blatant spam attempts. You can just hit the 'Report this post' button found at the top right of the offending post if you feel a need to help out. I will try to delete as many as I can as soon as they are found but as you know, it can become a never ending flood of crapf and I can't always get them all before you start your reading day.
Re: Forum Updates and ImprovementsUpdates:
* We've moved to a new webhost called Bluehost. * We've moved from shared hosting to virtual private server hosting, which means we have our own mini-server and should speed up the page loads on this site a lot. * We've upgraded the forum to the latest phpbb version, from phpbb3.07 to phpbb3.012. * We've changed the forum theme from the red theme to Artodia Ultra Blue. Hope you all like it. “Devotion to the truth is the hallmark of morality; there is no greater, nobler, more heroic form of devotion than the act of a man who assumes the responsibility of thinking.” - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
