Below is a link to a lengthy examination of one of my favorite cryptid cases.
The Zuiyo-maru carcass was sensationalized by the press in the late seventies.
There were very little if any follow-up stories published about the investigation.

Personally, I'd apply the Occam's razor approach. It's far more likely this is just an example of a basking shark carcass than a "living fossil" plesiosaur, especially since similar incidences have been confirmed as basking shark corpses, and there would be no good reason to cover up such a discovery. In fact, if it was an actual plesiosaur, the region would probably experience a massive monetary boon from both tourists and scientists.
