Spot on predictions of NCAA tournament

Postby Nostradamus » 16 Mar 2010, 05:42

From http://gazetteonline.com/sports/2010/03/15/hawkeye-state-paranormal-has-history-of-ncaa-tournament-success

“No, no, I’m not a psychic or a medium or anything like that,” Figueroa said, laughing.

Two facts: The Cedar Rapids man did win the MySpace Bracket Challenge last year, topping a field of 19,857 contestants who filled out NCAA men’s basketball pairings online. And he is a co-founder of Hawkeye State Paranormal, which tries to help people understand the paranormal through investigation and research.

Whatever his methodology, his bracketology was spot on. Figueroa, 33, had the entire Elite Eight and Final Four of the tourney pegged. He had North Carolina beating Michigan State in the title game, which is how it played out. Not many envisioned Michigan State reaching the title game when the NCAA field was announced.

Even Figueroa’s tiebreaker, which he didn’t need, was keen. He said 162 points would be scored in the championship contest. There were 161.

Pretty amazing win here and way better than the professors, which were 1:1 (or 0). He says he didn't get paranormal help but he is a co-founder of a group. Is this guy holding back on something?

Let's see if he can replicate it this year... ;-) (I know, I'm always the "pseudo-skeptic."

According to the article he says his success was due to watching lots of games and spending lots of time analyzing those games.

Yes, he also said it wasn't due to any psychic abilities. I like that honesty. Had that been someone else we all know, we would never have heard the end of it.
