Oh ok. Yeah that Prosilver theme looks kind of bland.

Ninjapuppy, what is your opinion of Artodia Ultra Blue then?

I like that one. It's easy to read and has perhaps more of an updated look. I say go for it.

Ok done. :) We are now using the Artodia Ultra Blue theme. Hope you like it. I think it looks great!

Let me know if you experience any problems or bugs in this theme.

The navigation above is a bit different. But you should be able to figure it out by playing with it. :)

It's OK, but I'm not absolutely thrilled with it. The red links and blue/silver colours don't really go together. I don't know if it's a lot better than the all red theme which looked consistent and more solid overall.

Sorry I didn't weigh in on all the other theme options listed earlier, I clicked through and glanced at a few of them. I can get back with a more considered opinion if you like, with other good candidates?

Certainly the buttons etc look much more modernised now. There are clearly layout differences also as you switch themes, so those factors can come into account also. Upgrading to phpbb3 and removal of bugs etc also enhance capability on the forum.

Do you mean the red links in the ads or in the forum categories. I already updated the ad colors to match this theme. Didn't you notice? :)

If you mean the red links in the forum categories, well they signify that there are unread topics in those boards. The red link is there to get your attention. How else are you supposed to notice the unread topics? lol

But besides that, why aren't you thrilled about this theme? It matches the colors of the rest of the site, and has a nice easy to read layout that looks more modern.

That red theme made us look like the JREF forum. lol

Sure you may post your opinion of the other themes. It's good to hear everyone's opinion.

Yes well not only did we upgrade phpbb3, but we moved to a private server on our webhost and got a dedicated IP, so we should have faster and smoother loading times too. Have you noticed?

yes, all the above, clearly performance has improved as well, along with upgrading phpbb -- these are all positive changes that position you to getting more readers and contributors... the red links I'm talking about are on your name, which may be OK as site owner, and on some/most of the forums etc. Clearly very few ppl are going to read EVERYTHING on the forum and have that saved in their browsers, so most users will see most of the red links most of the time. but this may just be to quibble, given everyone else is in blue and ninja is in green and so on. the 'weight' of the old log and site was better though, so it may be possible to find another theme that provides that weight. clearly fonts and buttons etc are all affected as well -- these are better fonts than the red theme, as the quote text was miniaturised a bit too much on the old site.

there was a global request for comment, this discussion isn't limited to admins and clearly not an admin only forum, so just weighing in. we seem to be down to 2 readers anyhow lol. not counting the NSA and CIA.

Nothing around here is solely for Admins. It's open season for EVERYONE! :D

SydneyPSIder wrote:we seem to be down to 2 readers anyhow lol.

Now for that actual count..... I was surprised by how many readers we have and who they were. There were 10 older posters from back in the beginning and 12 more who have never posted but seem to lurk regularly.

Not for nothing but "The NSA" would be a really great forum ID.

So far, so good. I've been able to navigate around easy enough but I'm sorry to hear that the rocket loader had to go. I was enjoying the zippyness.

Hey I'm having second thoughts about this theme. Some of the buttons are hard to find, and the dirty white background feels kind of gloomy. The white background we had before felt more uplifting and clean. The colors in this theme feel a bit gloomy. What do you think?

Also, in the posts, you can't see a PM button to send a PM to someone. You have to hover over the username with the mouse cursor to see a PM button appear. That's kind of lame. Many people will not know that there is a PM button there unless they hover their cursor over the user name, which there is no guarantee they will do.

Perhaps we should either move back to the red theme or prosilver. We can change the colors of prosilver because the blue is too bright in it. And we can use a mod in prosilver to move the avatars from right to left.

What do you all think?

I don't think that the background is "gloomy". It takes a while to get used to something new. Since I don't think that any of us are very attached to this one so if you want to give another one a try, I say go for it.

I like the new theme well enough. Only thing I don't like as much is that it doesn't seem to bold the thread's with unread posts and the click to go to the first unread post button is a bit small. Otherwise the colour scheme is pleasing enough.

I haven't played around yet, but what I like even more is that you can now click on a user and see all their posts. I'm glad you've upgraded some of the features!

How about the RedSilver 3 style? It keeps a lot of the ScepCop red theme, but modernises the look and feel considerably. That was just a quick assay of the options that would be in keeping with the previous site style, allows you to use your red scepcop logo graphic, etc. I haven't looked at the full font and style family that comes with it, etc, tho. I also haven't assessed tons of different themes to be honest, I suppose you can just scroll through them all, and they're all available as a choice? I think the red lends a sort of urgency to your mission, the grey and blue sites are a bit bland. I'm on another forum with that blue-ish look but it's pretty anodyne and off putting tbh....

update: I've browsed the dropdown in the demo site list, I'm assuming they're all available for no extra charge? There's obviously a bewildering number of possibilities. I think the redsilver 3 theme is still a possibility as it's kind of having a bet each way with red and silver but they mesh OK. but there are so many others. I think you need something fairly striking tho. CA Orbital is very cool and dramatic and matches the content of the site, but pretty hard to read. clearly human factors like readability and good fonts and colours etc are important. otherwise there's just so many candidates... it's much easier to decide you want red then look through all the red options! or similar.

You mean this Redsilver theme?

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styl ... er_3/demo/

Yeah it's ok. But too many titles on it are in gray. And gray is kind of gloomy. Plus that theme is not updated to the latest version of phpbb3.

CA Orbital is a black background theme with stars in the background. You like that? lol. Isn't that for a sci fi forum?

If you like red, how about Milky Way Red? It's updated to the latest phpbb3.

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styl ... _red/demo/

Do you like red because it looks like the JREF forum?

The thing is, red doesn't match the colors on the home page. But if you like red, then why not just go back to the red theme that we had before?

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/style/reds/demo/

Yeah all those themes on the phpbb site are free. Yeah the black SCEPCOP logo does look better with the red theme I guess.
