Difference between Nazi swastika and Hindu swastika?

04 Dec 2014, 07:48

Hi all

I got interested in the difference between the Hindu swastika and the Nazi swastika. One is a message of hate, while the other is seen as a symbol of peace by millions worldwide.

So, I decided to test if the two symbols could have a bad/good impact on plant growth...

I conducted a plant experiment with the Nazi and the Hindu swastika which can be found here.

I don't think there's anything conclusive, but I think that more work in this area could be useful. I encourage anyone who actually has access to a lab to do this themselves. :)

Why did you think a symbol would have an effect on plant growth? I'm curious as to your thought process. How did you go from "people interpret this symbol in completely different ways" to plant growth? Why did you choose to have the symbol under the plants as opposed to above or next to the plants? The seeds planted in the symbol's shape? etc

How did you control for light, moisture content, drainage, seed distribution, humidity, nutrients, etc?

What are you trying to prove with this "experiment?"

Buddhist statues have that swastika too. At least the ones from Pureland Buddhism do.

They claim that their swastika is reversed from the Nazi one.

The swastika is an ancient symbol that was brought to the Nazis by the Thule Society, which Hitler was a member of.
