A New Record

Postby NinjaPuppy » 15 Aug 2009, 00:37

Did somebody throw a party and not tell me? Since joining this forum the highest number of members/guests was dated something like July 27 (sorry, bad memory) and today I find this down the bottom of the forum home page.

Most users ever online was 66 on Fri Aug 14, 2009 8:18 am

Considering that the volume of posts here has been low, I find it strange. I guess something sparked some lurker interest.

I also missed the "party."

I note that a surprisingly large number of registered members at SCEPCOP have yet to make an introductory post, but I assume that they do lurk.

I would anticipate that a Forum as off-beat as this one would attract a fair ammount of interest so maybe it's just a sign that word is getting around about SCEPCOP and that more people are perusing the site out of curiosity.

If so, it's probably cause for optimism since one hopes that at least a few lurkers wether sceptics, in-betweeners or believers will join in and contribute.

Wow 66? That breaks the previous record of 41 users online at the same time here.

Sometimes I post links to this site on high traffic blogs and website, to try to get more traffic and hits, and raise the search engine rankings for this. So that might be it, people following a link I posted. Or someone else might have mentioned it on a high traffic site and so people came to look.

I've never understood why some people register here but never post. It seems illogical. But every forum as those.

Maybe they just want to feel "part of it". lol

This forum has grown a lot since last month, when The Professor came in and all that flame war started on the JREF board here. That board I guess, is the flame war board now, and has the most posts, topping over a thousand already. lol

I am generally what I would consider a professional lurker. I rarely ever comment but I do enjoy the reading. For some reason, this forum persuaded me to get into the conversation and so far it has been a very positive and enjoyable experience.

It certainly did provide me with some mindless entertainment when I arrived. ;)

Ninjapuppy,
Well I think the JREF flame wars are only entertaining for a while. But soon you realize that there's nothing but negative energy attached to it, and it's focus is all on the ego. Very non-spiritual in my opinion, and not good for the soul.

Yes, I mostly do a "Mark As Read" on those topics but every now and then I get this desire to peek. It's like passing a train wreck and not being able to look away out of morbid curiosity.

may be you should put a sign on that part of the forum scepcop "ABANDON ALL HOPE ( of rational discussion) YE WHO ENTER HERE !!"

I Have just spent an entertaining hour trawling through more of the threads in that section - and have come to the conclusion its like a bar fight that has spilled out onto the street - we "bystanders " - can see the punch up - but have no idea of the ins and outs of it in reality - ah well - good entertainment value i suppose - honestly i wold love to see the main parties have a head to head on TV - it would be BLOODY

HO HUM -its ALL so simple to sort out - the proff defines his claims and jref tests them - if valid they pay if not bragging rights go to the skeptics - or am i being too logical as usual

It looks like the record was beaten yesterday. See this at the bottom of the forum:

Most users ever online was 68 on Mon Jan 18, 2010 3:30 am

I wonder what happened on January 18 that drew in 68 visitors?

Wow! That usually only happens when someone makes nasty remarks pertaining to J. Randi or JREF.
