Host George Noory brings talk of the supernatural back to earth
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-ca-george-noory21-2010feb21,0,5507447.story?track=rss

The lure of "Coast to Coast AM," syndicated through the Premiere Radio Networks, is that it remains virtually the only forum in the mainstream media to hear about and discuss such topics. Founded in the early 1990s by radio legend Art Bell, who hosted the program from tiny Pahrump, Nev., "Coast to Coast" grew rapidly into a national clearinghouse for the strange and unusual. After Bell entered semi-retirement, Noory took over the role of primary weeknight host seven years ago.

Like I said in the other thread ...

Coast To Coast I don't particularly care for. They will invite anyone on who seems to have a good paranormal / fringe / weird story for radio, including MANY hoaxers and non-credible personalities in these fields who have appeared throughout Coast To Coast's history.

George's format is basically to ask very soft comfortable questions, never be judgemental, and go "Gee golly whizz!" at everything the guest says. Coast To Coast is pure fluff.

I MUCH prefer the format of The Paracast. They always ask hard questions, and drill the guest like crazy with very valid skeptical questions. They bring on very credible people for serious indepth interviews and get deep in discussing the research. And they bring on hoaxers and non-credible personalities in these fields frequently, but with the intent of EXPOSING THEM. (They basically ask very logical questions of the guest, point out whatever reeks, and give them a rope to hang themselves, basically.) They have no tolerance for fluff, only for serious inquiry.

That's the type of format I want.

A close second is Alex Tsakiris' Skeptiko, where he interviews both Paranormal Researchers AND Skeptics (Like Randi, Shermer, Wiseman, Etc) in order to get an even-handed approach on his Podcast.

Thanks for the info. Coast to Coast is not available where I live. One night I did pick up the show while in another area, but just as the show started he said that he was in hiding because people were trying to kill him and that reruns of the show would be aired until it was safe for him to return live. Then the show abruptly ended and something else was put in its place.

Bummer.

Coast to Coast is entertainment. It's actually very good entertainment for when you're driving on the interstate late at night. It keeps the listeners awake and involved better than most forms of radio. An alert truck driver is a good thing, and so, Coast to Coast is a good thing.

You can watch many of the shows on YouTube. Someone usually uploads them there. There are some great spiritual insights in the shows. But also crackpots yes. Don't generalize all one way or the other.

Isn't this a radio show. I can listen to mp3s, but these videos are a drag. I can listen to mp3s while I travel, but videos basically suck.
