Monk Levitating on Film - No way! WTF?!

Postby Scepcop » 24 Dec 2012, 01:45

Check this out. This will blow you away. I don't know if this is real or staged, but at the end of this documentary, magician Dan White finds this monk in Nepal who is able to levitate and films it. Before that, he does some tricks for people that defy all logic and explanation, including making the moon disappear with his hands, putting a card outside the bus window, and pushing a necklace through his neck. Some really freaky effects. A must see. Here is the episode.

If you just want to see the clip of the monk levitating at the end, here it is:

However, I strongly recommend seeing the freaky tricks that Dan White does which rivals David Blaine. What do you think of them? Are they camera tricks? It's hard to believe he can just do those tricks with no preparation or shills or camera tricks. They defy explanation.

Dan White is a magician. If his tricks didn't amaze you he'd be rubbish, but they're all tricks in much the same way as Dynamo (youtube him).

The monk? Who knows, man!

I don't know either, but wouldn't you have considered it more amazing if he wasn't sitting right in front of a large curtain backdrop?

Or if the cameraman would have filmed from the side?

Gravity is such a tiny tiny force compared to all the other forces. Even a simple refrigerator magnet can pick up a paper clip against the gravitational force created by the mass of the Earth. To levitate necessarily calls for a very fine balancing act between gravity's downward pull and the levitation's upward thrust. Too little thrust an the monk does not levitate, too much upward thrust an this monk would go flying off in a flash under high G force. It's much easier too do this levitation through trickery, hence the curtain to conceal the trick.

That's why I say who knows. I'd like to see it shot in one take and, yes, away from a curtain.

And while they're at it, how about doing it around noon in the middle of a big field?
