Depending on the culture and the circumstances, it may be necessary for the people who believe in a religion to set aside some portion of money to support specialists or collectively owned property.

For example, most churches pay rent with money taken from a collection plate.

Furthermore, for some people, paying money is a necessary way of publicly demonstrating that some idea is worthwhile. For example, a man might get advised by his friends to stop drinking alcohol. The man might ignore this, then go to a physician, who will solemnly charge him $200 and tell him to stop drinking. -- The advice is the same, but some people won't listen until they've made a sacrifice.

However, some people charge money just to exploit the vulnerable. Such exploitation might be called "simony."

It's not easy to figure what sort of behavior is best, IMHO. The main difficulty is in determining consequences in the absence of perfect information.

Specifically:

Are the dead judged? By themselves or by others?

basically i think all we can do is be reasonably happy that we have done more good than harm during our time here - OK our consciences may not be 100% clear but IF as several religious books teach - "we are created in the image of god " - then logic dictates that he /she too has faults - so would be hypocritical to judge us too harshly

myself ?? don't care - i am happy that my good deeds outweigh my bad ones in life - and if someone wants to judge me - then let em do so - i am happy to spend part of eternity arguing the toss with them
