Review of "Religulous"

Postby ProfWag » 18 May 2010, 01:46

Just watched the Bill Maher movie "Religulous" last night. Thought it was a good movie for those Atheists among us. Like him or hate him, Bill displayed a lot of guts in his interviews with the religions of the world. If you're one with a strong religious background, you probably wouldn't like it as much, but for people like myself, Scepcop, and Craig, it makes for an interesting, and quite funny movie. The part when "Christ" compared The Holy Trinity to water (ice, steam, and liquid) really cracked me up.
Anyway, Scepcop, I thought of you especially and think you would enjoy the movie if you haven't seen it yet...

the time when i cringed a little bit was when he was talking with the truck drivers... oh man.. that seemed dangerous

it is a funny movie, bill is awesome at what he does
which is being extremely funny, i do relate to him a lot
i do laugh at people´s strange and dumb beliefs and i dont hold back

i loved the part with the converted jew.. that he prayed for water and then it rained
the story in itself was so dumb yet the way bill reacted was great
¨that isnt a miracle, it rains all the time¨..
awesome!
For every person who reads this valuable book there are hundreds of naïve souls who would prefer to have their spines tingled by a sensational but worthless potboiler by some hack journalist of the paranormal. You who now read these sentences join a small but wiser minority. Martin Gaardner (Psychology of the Psychic)

To me, as an atheist, most of what Bill was reacting to was just common sense which made it even more comical.

Here are some more quotes:
"Gay Muslim activists. That is a very rare job description. You guys have big ones. "

"Anyone who tells you that they know, they just know what happens when you die, I promise you, you don't. How can I be so sure? Because I don't know and you do not possess mental powers that I do not."

" Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don't have all the answers to think that they do."

"If you belonged to a political party or a social club that was tied to as much bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, violence, and sheer ignorance as religion is, you'd resign in protest."

"And then were get here and five minutes after we arrive, the skies open up, it's completely nice and there was a rainbow above the thing we were shooting. So, I don't know, if God didn't want us to shoot, he sure blank up today."

" You know Scientologists. And right, you're like, "Oh, yeah, that's some crazy shit. Okay." Jesus with the virgin birth and the dove and the snake who talked in the garden, that's cool. But the Scientologists, they're the crazy ones. "

"Because you also share the name Miranda. Maybe you’re Carmen Miranda. You may be the second coming of her! You should have fruit on your head, instead of fruit in your head! " - Bill Maher (Religulous)

That's my favorite quote in the film.
"I think Eteponge's Blog is a pretty cool guy. eh debates Skeptics and doesnt afraid of anything."

Yea, that was a good one also.
