Hello from a Skeptic

Postby ProfWag » 05 Aug 2009, 04:25

Hello All! I am quite interested in the beliefs of those that don't necessarily agree with my own views. I believe that the best way to form proper opinions on a subject is to view as much information as possible and then form my own belief based on all information gathered. I must admit that I am quite a skeptical person and tend to feel that most paranormal events have a valid explanation. However, one cannot rule anything out as potentially possible. I hope this forum allows for mature debating in a positive atmosphere.

welcome
For every person who reads this valuable book there are hundreds of naïve souls who would prefer to have their spines tingled by a sensational but worthless potboiler by some hack journalist of the paranormal. You who now read these sentences join a small but wiser minority. Martin Gaardner (Psychology of the Psychic)

Welcome ProfWag.

I hope you are a truly open minded skeptic, one who does not discount possibilities. If so, that puts you above most who call themselves skeptics, such as the Randi and CSICOP crowd.

Are you really a professor who teaches somewhere?

I was asked on another thread about teaching, but yes, I'm a part-time professor of management at a small university.
As for being an open minded skeptic, I'd like to think that I am. I try not to discount something until I see ALL the facts. Unfortunately, I haven't seen many facts that lead me to positive conclusions on most issues.
