Hello Everyone

Hello everyone.

Just joined the Forum, hoping for some sensible discussions.

I consider myself a Skeptic - however, I'm definitely not a pseudoskeptic! I try to read both sides of the argument (hence my Username) and to think critically.

My guiding principle is the definition of genuine Skepticism articulated by Robert Anton Wilson:

"Doubt A; then doubt B; then doubt both A and B; then doubt your ability to doubt enough".

On the whole, my reading and thinking has led me (so far) to believe that there is a basis of fact behind most anomalous phenomena, and that there is a purposeful intelligence behind what we term "reality".

In other words, I am a skeptic tending towards belief. (Subject, as always, to further evidence.)

I look forward especially to discussions with those genuine skeptics (no pseudos, please) who tend toward disbelief. I'm not looking for any games of one-upmanship, nor for aggressive online confrontation. Rather, I'm hoping to learn something from these discussions and to broaden my mind.

Thanks.

BTW, is there a particular paranormal subject that interests you more than others?

Hello Ninja, thanks for your welcome.

I guess my main interest is the connection between altered states of consciousness (mysticism, in all its forms) and the world revealed by modern physics.

I am not a scientist, so I have to tread carefully with the latter!

To be more specific:

- NDEs,
- The "awakening experiences" of ordinary people,
- Quantum theory, and what (if anything) is the connection between the material world and human consciousness,
- The postmortem survival of consciousness (or lack of it)
- UFOs
- The Perennial Philosophy & Gnosticism
- "Sacred" places and their effect on human consciousness.

That'll do to be going on with!

Please feel free to start a new topic if any of the current (old ones) don't fit your ideas or concepts.
