Greetings all :)

Introduce yourself here!

Greetings all :)

Postby Ellie » 16 Aug 2010, 22:50

Greetings all,

I'm Ellie. I'm an archaeologist with a background in university physics, complex mathematics and philosophy of science. My current research interests involve neuroscience, psychology (particularly evolutionary) and human/group behaviour. I joined this forum after interesting experiences with groups of people who call themselves sceptics, often rather aggressively, but who are not. I've become very curious about this and I'm currently looking at doing more in-depth study into the behaviour of these groups from a psychological point of view. I've found very little on the popular internet, besides this site, which acknowledges a problem with modern 'Skepticism' and people's understanding of what scepticism is. Type in 'sceptic' or 'scepticism' and I merely get a staggering number of sites and youtube clips which misrepresent these terms. More data is required and that's where all you lovely people come in ;)

Cheers! :D

Ellie.

Welcome Ellie! I'm a skeptic so study my behavior as you see fit. Based on your resume, I would hope you are a skeptic also.

Thanks!

I've already seen a bit of the old cynicism masquerading as scepticism, but a lot of very nice REAL scepticism too, so it's a nice interesting mix! :)

Unfortunately, the sad part about this forum, is the administrator is more interested in bashing federal governments about 9/11 than he is running a forum based on anything scientific and the paranormal.
While myself, being the pig head that I am, I'm always falling for his bait. I just need to learn to leave him and his 9/11 silliness alone.

Cheers!

This forum has made an otherwise boring and dreary Monday considerably more fun :P

We can be such a fun group when we want to be  Of course, new blood sure does keep things active. Make yourself at home and dig into the fray.

Welcome Ellie. Wow an archaeologist? Do you wear a beige hat and dig around in excavation sites in Egypt like they show on TV? :)

Don't be so hard on me ProfWag. There are boards for every subject here. Besides, the JREF forum also bashes conspiracies as well as the Paranormal. The two subjects tend to go hand in hand on most paranormal and skeptic sites.
