My First Conspiracy Theory

Postby ProfWag » 05 Jun 2012, 05:28

Believe it or not, I would like to start a conspiracy theory. I think the Government is hiding something top secret in the middle of an Arkansas cotton field. Here's my evidence:

First, go to wikipedia.org (easiest) and search for Walnut Ridge Regional Airport. Here you will find the following information for the airport: "For the 12-month period ending July 31, 2008, the airport had 94,000 aircraft operations, an average of 257 per day: 97% general aviation, 2% military, and1% air taxi. At that time there were 55 aircraft based at this airport: 62% single-engine, 9% multi-engine, 27% jet and 2% helicopter.[1]"

Now, let's think about this for a minute. The town of Walnut Ridge is in the middle of freakin' nowhere. There are less than 8,000 people in a two-town municipiality with a relatively low median income per household. Yet, this itty bitty town averages 257 flights per day? 55 aircraft are based there? 15 of them jets? This place used to be military airfields back in the day, but we military folk haven't been there in any numbers for years.

Go to bing.com or google.com and search Walnut Ridge, AR on a map. Just north of town and east of Hwy 67 you'll find the airport. Zoom out to see that's there's nothing around it and then zoom in to see the kind of aircraft sitting on the tarmacs.

Any civilian aircraft dudes or dudettes out there that would know anything about the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport other than the Beatles actually touched down there for a few minutes about 50 years ago?

If I run around the tarmac backwards, will I hear "Paul is dead?"

Those Google earth pics can be YEARS old. You'll need to go there with your camera and take pics for yourself for us to verify what you are saying.

You guys obviously have a lot to learn about conspiracy theories, Prof. This is scarcely more tha a conspiracy hypothesis, or even just a first guess that something isn'y ringing true. I am not exactly a conspiracy buff, myself, but Prof, I regard that post as proof YOU ARE NOT OUR CIA HANDLER!!! You didn't even suggest it was a death camp, much less suggest that rumors it was a death camp were hiding something more nefarious. ;)

Ninja, Prof, I am still hungover from Dark Shadows and in no condition to to to draw conclusions from data in a field I have no knowledge of. So thanx, Ninja. I had gotten thru two links looking for that sort of info before my eyes crossed. Let us know if either of you think the official traffic still looks excessive. Peace.

You have to cut ProfWag a break here as it is his first time.

Don't forget the problem with all those dead birds in AK during the holidays. Perhaps ProfWag was leading up to a death camp for birds.

I gotta agree with Twain, PW! You don't really have much of a conspiracy laid out here. Just a "thing that makes you go hmmmm". CIA drug smuggling? Joint AL Qaeda/US military training program? You really need something catchy to produce some interest in a random airport!

Here's the best I could find:
In the last year of the war, the airbase was used to hold German POWs. Very few local citizens knew about these prisoners. The Army Air Force's use of the airbase officially ended in 1944, when it was traded to the Marine Corps, becoming the Walnut Ridge Marine Air Facility. After the war, the airbase was used to dismantle planes and other military equipment. Over 10,000 planes were flown in and stored at the airport, including planes used by General Douglas McArthur and Admiral Halsey. It was the largest number of airplanes ever amassed in any one place. Half of the planes were sold around the world for both civilian and military use. The other half was melted down and sold as scrap metal. In 1947, the United States government formally turned the base over to Walnut Ridge....Part of the airbase was converted into a municipal airport. Southern Baptist College, now known as Williams Baptist College, took possession of 122 acres of the land, using it for student housing and educational buildings. The rest of the former air base was converted into an industrial complex.

The municipal airport is still in use today. It is a well-known stop for pilots from around the world. Famous people have made stops at the airport over the years, including the Beatles, who made an appearance at the airport in the 1960s. Recently, a group of people interested in preserving the air base’s history created a museum commemorating the air base and the people who served there.

Obviously, considering it had been previously used for both military detention and “dismantling” military equipment, it was used to to hold the Roswell wreckage and captives, Area 51 being a spurious diversionary leak. The industrial facilities were used in connection with resarch, and the Baptist College is an obvious CIA cover.

In the 60's, Paul was replaced by a reptilian clone doppleganger there. In the 70s, it was used by Bilious and Hilarious Clinton to smuggle cocaine to the Greys.

Now that's how you make a conspiracy theory, Prof ;) Any bets on when it goes viral?

The museum people will get involved in a reality show” about how the “Iraqi war” was a CGI produced disinformation campaign to account for the predatory reptile drones, and how Obomber is bravely taking the blame for being a warmonger, in order to protect us from the knowledge that we are being invaded from Outer Space, but that's a secret, Don't tell anyone ;)

I still don't know enough about airports to have the vaguest idea how to find out if their trffic load is excessive, short of actually looking, and I have to go thru Texas to do that. :) You and Prof were talking those facts, What is your guys estimate?

The last part of my previous post was a joke I got by combining the plots of two previews I saw last night.

Now we're getting somewhere!

I drove by it a few months ago and that's what tickled my fancy about it. I'm like "what in the hell are all those huge planes doing in the middle of nowhere?"
There are a hell of a lot more planes on their tarmac than Little Rock and it's comparable to Memphis, yet when I try to research it, I find tantalizingly little information on it. It's got to be Area 52...
